Best Birthday Ever

I went for a jog with my son who said he wasn’t complaining because it was my birthday– that was a perfect present. I showered, I meditated, I had some quiet time with my husband, I blogged, I put the snow clothes away, I got some cleaning done, the kids practiced the piano, I got the shopping for the week done and took my daughter to her trumpet lesson, the kids got a bunch of their school work done, and we had a fun little party.  It was nice and warm outside too and then cooled off in the evening.  Truly a perfect day!!  Any day that I get to shower and exercise and blog and teach school and cook and clean is a great day for me– all those things don’t usually happen!!  Everyone did nice things for me all day and they tried hard not to complain about their tasks.  That was great too.

I got bubbles, binoculars, hats, cards, flowers, a nice frying pan, gardening gloves, a wind chime, some books, some money, some garden plants, and some other little things. And the ice cream was great!!  And my husband is going to take me on a Segway tour of Boston.  I am a lucky woman and 40 is not so bad!!

My Birthday and Mother’s Day

So today has been a lovely day.  This is MY weekend.  I was born on Mother’s Day 40 years ago!!  I don’t feel like I’m 40– and I won’t be officially until tomorrow.  Today is the last day of my 30s.  It has been something, I’ll say– so much change and growth and challenge.  So anyway, I made my mother a mother that day, I was her first and she loved me and cared for me and raised me very well, I think.  Thank you mom!  She has been a great mother, and I am very grateful for her.  I had no idea of the level of her love and concern until I had my first baby, and now that my baby girl is a teen, I have a renewed appreciation for my mom for what I realize she did for me– just teaching me to drive for one thing!!  I love you mom!!

The spring is glorious!! Especially if you have followed my record of the amount of snow we had this winter.  This spring is so amazing and wonderful.  I feel so free outside, words are not enough, neither are pictures.  The air feels nice, it feels good to breathe and the smells especially right after a rain, and the feeling of the trees and leaves and flowers, it is almost overwhelming to me especially after the long, cold winter we had like I mentioned!  Here are some of the photos I’ve taken just in the yard. And as if all that wasn’t enough to be grateful and happy about, to celebrate my birthday which is on Monday, we went to Rhode Island for the first time (we kept missing it on our trips and have been meaning to get there).  It was sunny when we left, but foggy when we got there.  But it turned out to be a very fun outing, the kids got a little wet, but it was just nice to watch and listen to the waves and walk in the sand.  I LOVE the ocean.  It is so calming and beautiful and amazing.  You can see in the second photo how foggy it was, we took turns walking into the void and being lost by sight through the fog even though we weren’t so far away from each other.

And I LOVE being a mom!!  Before I was married and had children, I would often try to figure out what purpose my life would have, I wanted to help others and contribute to humanity in some way, but I was never really sure how.  Until I had my first baby, then I felt so needed and so fulfilled in caring for her and my subsequent children.  It has certainly had its ups and downs and I can’t say I will ever really miss changing my twins’ diapers or cleaning up blown out diapers or potty training or not sleeping and being in constant, intense demand for meals and cleaning, but I’m really glad I got to do it.  I’m really glad I have a wonderful, amazing husband who has made it possible for me to stay home with them and be able to provide for their needs and wants.  I love taking care of my children, and being with them and enjoying sweet times together.  Here is me with one of my sweet twins who has been a bit clingy lately and makes me feel so loved!

Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birthday to me!!

happy coincidence

Yesterday I went out to do my weekly grocery shopping which happened to be on the eve of Christmas Eve and I went during rush hour, so what normally is a 25-30 min. drive ended up being a one hour and 15 min. drive, ugh- no one likes sitting in traffic. But once I got to my stores, it was fine and I found everything I wanted and more.  My husband left about the same time I had to help someone move, I was surprised I hadn’t heard from him because I was much longer than I had expected to be.  Well I stopped at my last store to pick up a couple items, walked past a car that looked a lot like ours and who should be at the door walking in?  Him!!  That was nice surprise, I just like being with him, which is a very good thing given that we have been married a rather long time now.  It was a happy coincidence and ended a frustrating grocery errand trip on a very happy and pleasant note. He really is a pleasant person and very nice to be around, and he makes me laugh a lot.

Merry Christmas to you world!!  I wish you peace, joy and happiness!
