Long lines, ipads and library fines

I am glad for an ipad to make the time pass quick at the DMV.  I hardly noticed how long the line was and I got to read a book and check facebook and browse in peace and quiet without the kids although it was a long time to stand- about an hour.  It was great.  Also I made it to the library to pay for a book we can’t find anywhere, and the librarians were really nice and pleasant.  I was expecting a lecture or a talking to– but no they were really nice.  I suppose I am one of the most generous sponsors of libraries with all my fines. haha.

Hanging Out in the Ski Lodge

It has been super cold around here, like now I think that 30 degrees is warm and won’t it be nice to go sledding then.  Well my older kids have been learning how to ski in an awesome homeschool program that is really a great price and makes worth driving an hour and a half each way worth it.  I am glad that we can afford it even so, and that we can do it.  The kids have loved it.  And my 3 little guys, the twins and the toddler have just been so happy to spend time with me.

We color in the lodge and we ate lunch with the big kids, we help the big kids get their skis and watch them put everything on.  Then we watch them ski in their lesson and wave to them a lot.  The staff at the resort are awesome.  All the new homeschoolers we have met have been super nice.  The instructors tell me how well my kids listen.  And one of the workers told me on the way out that they are really glad we were there and they are glad to have us.  That was really nice. There are a couple grumpy people.  But the feeling there is one of acceptance overall.  They have chairs for the moms, they have a big lodge that’s comfortable and then they have a smaller one that overlooks the bunny hill.  They are fine with us walking all over and the twins making snow angels and climbing on snow banks.  It was lovely yesterday, lovely.

Somehow the following post was posted as a page :

The vacation break was totally awesome!!  It felt like Saturday everyday, I got some projects done and some cleaning done and I got to take my time.  The kids relaxed and watched a lot of TV and played a lot of video games and board games.  We didn’t go anywhere or have to be anywhere really.  It was so fun!!  Until Saturday and then my girls had a birthday party and one of them had an all day Robotics club event, and then we started 9 am church for the year which means bathing and finding clothes on Sat. night, so it felt less like Sat. and more like a workday, but we made it!!  And it was great.  Then yesterday we went skiing which was awesome– I blogged about it here on my learning blog. And it was beautiful– the drive home was amazing at sunset, I wish I could have pulled off the road to take more pictures of the clouds and the sky!!  I did stop on the way out of the resort on a dirt road going uphill and then I almost didn’t get going again, in my monster 15 passenger van!!  But we made it, it worked out, I am really glad we got new snow tires for this year!! Here’s the pic, I almost got stranded for:

It was so beautiful,  we finally got some snow and then it rained and froze which makes everything look like it was covered in glass, plus we were on a beautiful drive up and back to/from the ski resort.

ski7And this is the quarry in my backyard after the snow, I have been waiting for some good snow pictures, finally got a couple!

I am one of the Webelos den leaders for my son’s den at church.  It is pretty fun, I like my co- den leader and I like the boys.  We usually have a good time and I am always glad when I have the chance to talk to other moms when they come to pick up their boys.  Such was the case yesterday when scouts was over.  We had some nice conversations about schedules and kids and how different they all are.  It is nice to talk to people,  and I really appreciate when people reach out to me and approach me first, especially after dealing with rambunctious 10 yr. old boys who think they are really funny for an hour.  happy!

my town

I live in the coolest town.  Downtown is the village as they like to call it, Town Hall and the elementary school are in old red brick picturesque buildings.  There are a couple nice New England churches in the village also and all the houses are just cute.  it really is right out of a painting.  The village is only about a mile from my house, so that’s where I go running.  I also had business at town hall and the school building yesterday, it was just so awesome to do business in these old historic cool buildings that I enjoy running past each day.  The people out here are fantastic too.  They are busy with their own lives and have no need to impress anybody.  It is very refreshing.  They are content with their lives and they seem to treat each other with respect and good manners.  They seem sincere in their compliments.  I just like it here.  Go New England, go New Hampshire!!

nice strangers

Today was a bit of a long day. After 4 hrs. of a swim meet with 7 kids, I took them all with me to Costco and Trader Joe’s (glad I live fairly close to those stores).  I noticed a lot of people just smiling at my cute kids, especially the 2 yr. old.  Nobody looked at me weird, like why do you have so many children? They were mostly busy with their own lives. We basically had lunch out of the samples at Costco, the sales people were happy to serve them to my 7 kids.  The Vitamix lady asked us if we’d like her to make us a smoothie, that made my kids very happy, it was very good and she said that she just loves making them for kids.  I thought that was pretty nice.  I took all 8 of my kids to Costco in the winter once when school was in session.  I got a LOT of weird looks and at least 3 people asked me if they were all mine.  This was a contrast, I think there was more going on at the store, it’s summer, and we got lots of smiles and no questions. And then at the check out, I couldn’t find my costco card for awhile, the guy was telling me, they could look it up with my license when I finally found it buried beneath a bunch of papers in my purse– I told them that I had it when I walked in and he said that I had a little more going on than most motioning to my kids and that it was no big deal. That was nice!!  Thank you strangers, you don’t know what a friendly smile and friendly gestures and feelings may mean to a harried, frumpy, well- meaning mom!!
